MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- For a second consecutive day, Old White Plains Road was closed during rush hour on Thursday, this time due to a house fire near Stonewall Lane.
Lt. Robert Koziak, a spokesman for the Town of Mamaroneck, said the 8 a.m. call turned out to be a "smoke condition" in a home on Old White Plains Road -- and nothing more serious.
However, Koziak said traffic had to be detoured away from the house between Griffen Avenue and Fairway Drive for about 30 minutes.
"The timing on these things is atrocious,'' Koziak said of the incident's impact on the morning commute.
A similar rush-hour shutdown occurred on Wednesday: Old White Plains Road was closed in both directions for more than 45 minutes after a two-car accident near Deerfield Lane.
No serious injuries were reported in Wednesday's crash, according to Koziak.
