MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Jerry R. Gelardo Sr., of Mamaroneck, died after a battle with MDS. He was 81.
He was born Feb. 9, 1934, in Mount Vernon to Ralph and Pearl (Silver) Gelardo.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-58. Following his service, he joined the village of Mamaroneck Police Department, serving 29 years and achieving the rank of sergeant. He was an outdoors enthusiast who enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He was also an extraordinary chef.
He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years Mary Jane (nee DiLeo).
He is survived by his children, Patricia, Jerry Jr. and Donna Dente (Frank Sr.); and his grandchildren, Frank Jr. and Corinne Dente.
Family and friends will gather Wednesday, Sept. 9., from 4-8 p.m. at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 767 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
