WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - A White Plains man accused of killing a Mamaroneck woman last winter was arraigned on murder charges Thursday.
Reginald Powell, of White Plains, faces up to life in prison without parole for nine criminal counts, eight of which are felonies, according to the Westchester County District Attorneys office.
Powell, 55, was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree and one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
New York Police Department officers stopped Powell for making an illegal left hand turn in Harlem on December 30th, 2010. Officers brought Powell to the police facilities after chasing him on foot. Powell, who was in a sports utility vehicle owned by Jennifer Katz's, was found with four of her rings and narcotics. He told police about a body in the Village of Mamaroneck.
Mamaroneck police quickly discovered Katz's body.
Powell is being held in the county jail. He will appear in court next on July 13.
