Mega Millions Gives Mamaroneck $640 Million Dreams

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Arlase Stanley bought her first-ever lottery ticket Friday for $640 million reasons.

Stanley, a Bronx resident and babysitter for a family in Mamaroneck, filled out her ticket at the Soji Stationary Store on 396 Palmer Ave. with excitement, thinking of all of those in need she could help by donating to charities.

The Mega Millions jackpot soared to $640 million Friday, drawing first-time and long-time lotto players to stationary stores across Mamaroneck and Larchmont.

Enkelta Temali, a Rye Neck resident and teacher's aide at Mamaroneck High School, bought her ticket during lunch Friday. She will watch the Mega Millions drawing Friday night with her husband and she said has already bought $250-worth of tickets.

Like Temali, Carlyte Ram, a Mamaroneck resident, and his brother are part of office pools, which he believes will give them the best chance of winning. Just in case the winning ticket was waiting for him at Soji Stationery, he also stopped in Friday during lunch to buy another ticket.

If Ram hits the jackpot, he knows exactly what he would do.

"I already know I'm going to take a trip to Hawaii if I win," said Ram, who added he would also help family and friends.

Shantina Scott-Hall, a New Rochelle resident and waitress at the International House of Pancakes on Boston Post Road in Larchmont, also tried her luck at the $640 million jackpot.

"The first thing I would do is buy a house and put money away for my kids' college," Scott-Hall said.
