That’s a great mileage reimbursement – $12,500 per mile.
The jackpot winner identified only as “Mel” hit for exactly that sum at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, parlaying a $15 wager on the $5-denomination Wheel of Fortune slot-machine located in Empire City’s Grand Victorian Room.
It was the second straight six-figure jackpot hit by a "local" Hudson Valley resident. On Sept. 17, Antoinette Marcelin of Spring Valley took home $119,481 after making a $5 wager on the $1 denomination Bally's Quick Hit Black and White Jackpot machine in the Gotham Palace.
Mel’s $150,000 score was the 11th six-figure jackpot of the year at Empire City.
Two others involved Westchester County residents over the summer. Nancy of Mamaroneck $2 on a penny slot machine called Fireball and walked away with nearly $140,000 on July 1. And Tommy of Yorktown Heights won $320,000 on Aug. 11 after wagering $200 on the 3x4x5 Double Diamond, according to casino officials.
A casino spokesman said players can "expect more heat on the Wheel of Fortune machines" since a pair of $900,000-plus jackpots are currently up for grabs.
