Con Edison Blocks Portion of Palmer Avenue

Con Edison contractors blocked off a portion of Palmer Avenue between Chatsworth and Wendt avenues Wednesday to repair a leaking gas main, which was the source of a gas odor the Corner Store owner reported Tuesday.

The Larchmont Fire Department responded to the complaint Tuesday evening, but had to wait for Con Edison Gas to make a determination on the source of the odor. They contracted Hallen Construction Co. Inc. to dig up a portion of Palmer Avenue to access the gas main Wednesday, which they discovered was leaking.

One contractor from the Island Park construction company on the scene said the leak was coming from the gas main hub and that they had fixed the leak around 11 a.m. He and his partner were filling in the whole and laying gravel to cover it by 11:30 a.m.
