Artist Guild Gives Students Venue to Show Work

MAMARONECK, N.Y. - Julia Rosenfeld and Emily Mancuso are two of 25 Mamaroneck High School students whose art will be displayed at the Mamaroneck Artists Guild (MAG) in Larchmont beginning Jan. 31.

For Mancuso, a junior, this is the second year her work will be on display in the "Young Artists on the Rise" exhibit, open to the public from Jan. 31 to Feb. 11.

"I am very excited to be displaying my work," Mancuso said. "This show allows my piece to be seen by so many more people than if it was just displayed in the school."

In addition to exposing their work to the broader community, students could win awards during the opening reception Feb. 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Members of the Larchmont-based Guild identify categories based on the pool of entries, and award prizes for first place, second place and honorable mention. They also select one piece for Best of Show.

Mamaroneck, as well as New Rochelle High School and the French-American School, can each select 25 pieces to enter into the show.

The Mamaroneck High School has been working with MAG for about 20 years, said MHS Art Department Chair Kevin Klein. Suzanne Montresor, Director of the MAG, commended Klein and the other art teachers for the work they put into selecting the entries and getting them ready.

"Just like the recent history trip to New Hampshire, this is a great opportunity for students like me to bring their school work into the real world,”
