The Mamaroneck Union Free School District has named Jeffrey Moore as its new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, officials announced on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
Moore, whose contract was officially approved by the district's Board of Education on Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, will begin in the role on or before Monday, April 1.
According to district officials, Moore emerged as the best fit for the position during an intensive search process because of his two decades of experience as a curriculum and instruction leader.
He currently serves as Superintendent of the Hunterdon Central Regional High School District in New Jersey, a role he took in 2017.
Before that, was the Administrative Supervisor and then Director of Curriculum and Instruction at the Freehold Regional High School District. While there, he reported to the Mamaroneck School District's current superintendent, Charles Sampson, who said he was eager to once again work with Moore.
"The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction is one of the most critical roles in the district. It requires someone who can constantly push the boundaries on how to innovate and excel while also ensuring that we are meeting the needs of all students and supporting our educators and staff," Sampson said.
In his past roles, Moore has helped come up with large-scale projects that created innovative learning spaces for students and has also prioritized student wellness by developing equity policies and advocating for funding to address mental health issues in children, district officials said.
"There are several monumental issues and opportunities that are impacting public education at this time," Mamaroneck School Board President Ariana Cohen said, "and our district needs a leader of curriculum and instruction who has the proven ability to build upon the success our district has achieved while looking closely at opportunities to continuously improve and innovate on behalf of all students."
Moore said he is excited to begin work in Mamaroneck.
"It’s an honor to join the distinguished team at Mamaroneck, and I’ve enjoyed getting to know the district. The levels of talent, passion, and dedication in this warm and wonderful place are simply astounding. I’m eager to work with our staff and all of our families, leveraging openness and pooling everyone’s skills toward guaranteeing that the promises of our mission reach every single one of our students," Moore said.
