LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- More than 125 boats from all over the tri-state area participated in the Leukemia Cup Regatta, which raised more than $100,000 at the Larchmont Yacht Club on Saturday, Sept. 6.
The events and funds raised helps the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley Chapter fund research to find better therapies and help improve the lives of blood cancer patients and their families.
The event included a pig roast for more than 300 guests, also hosted by Larchmont Yacht Club, and featured live and silent auctions.
Polaris Properties of Larchmont was a major sponsor of the event, along with Tom Broderick State Farm Insurance of New Rochelle.
This year, participants have collectively raised $55,000. The top fundraisers were the following:
- Lauretta and Gwenn Abbott and Team Quee Queg - $12,500
- Tom Spelman and Friends of Scott Seaver - $16,500
- Colleen Seaver and Team Seaver - $3,350
- Eliza Crocker of New Rochelle - $6,100
- William Clark of Stamford, Conn., - $900
The Leukemia Cup Regatta is a friendly but competitive series of sailing events around the United States, which combines the joy of sailing with the important task of raising money to fight leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers.
Participants across the country have raised more than $46 million to help advance the LLS mission since the inception of the Leukemia Cup Regatta.
Each sailor in the regatta series, through fundraising efforts, is eligible to win prizes, including the opportunity to race at the Fantasy Sail in Savannah, Ga., on Friday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 23, with world-renowned sailor and ESPN commentator Gary Jobson, National Leukemia Cup Regatta Chairman.
“The Leukemia Cup Regatta is a great way for sailing enthusiasts to do what they love, while also helping the more than one million people suffering from blood cancers,” said Dennis Chillemi, Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley Chapter Executive Director.
