The Fine Grind: Peekskill’s newest independent café is drawing praise for its socially conscious, family-owned, and kid-friendly vibe. It roasts small batches of its own beans at The Hat Factory, a former factory that now houses art studios, just five minutes away. It is located way in the back of a large space used for open mic nights, writers’ groups, and art exhibits. Its Co-Owner, Elina Dart, earned her chops working on a coffee farm in Kona, Hawaii. Free Wi-Fi makes it a good place to hang out and work, too. It also serves vegan pastries, gluten-free goodies, salads, paninis, and bagels.
Most Popular Brew: Hard to pin down just one, since Big Bang has dozens and is always changing the line-up. But, check out its monthly blog, where it introduces its baristas and waxes poetic about blends like Supernova, redolent of walnut and chocolate; and Ethiopian Natural Yirgacheffe, which has cherry notes. The Ethiopian Sidamo, when the beans are in season, is also a customer fave. This month, it is debuting a latte made with stoneground green tea.
