LARCHMONT, N.Y. --  Two brothers who have long owned and operated Italian restaurants in Manhattan have finally listened to their customers and opened closer to "home."

Eastchester residents Gerardo and Cosimo Bruno, the family behind Caravaggio, Sistina and San Pietro on Manhattan's East Side, say the one question they've heard from their customers over the years has been: When are you opening in Westchester?

Gerardo admits they'd been looking at spaces for a while. When the one vacated by Palmer's Crossing in Larchmont opened up a year ago, they finally sealed the deal...though it would take eight months for them to renovate and refurbish to their specifications.

Their new creation, Le Sirene Ristorante , centers on Southern Italian cuisine, where they are from, specifically the town of Salerno. They even import olives, tomatos and their own olive oil from the farm that has been in their family for generations. (You can buy the extra virgin olive oil if you ask.)

And they brought in a wood-burning oven imported from Italy that sends intoxicating smells throughout the bar area.

That's not the only Italian import. Their chef, Stefano Gentili, hails from Rome, having worked in a number of European eateries.

Le Sirene, which features an understated mermaid theme (note the seashell light fixtures in the bar area), features an extensive menu spanning the gamut from pasta (including whole wheat and gluten-free) to risotto, seafood, salads, and meat dishes with entree prices that range from $12 to $38.

A paired down bar menu lists more than 15 kinds of Neapolitan-style pizzas along with 14 Italian beers.

What makes the restaurant stand out, aside from its authentic food and drink (there is also a large wine list), is the fact that Le Sirene, and its sister properties, are a family-run business with a handful of family members at each restaurant at all times. Gerardo said you can expect to see his sister, wife, nephew and assorted other relations when you visit.

The restaurant held its soft opening June 30 and is now officially open for dinner Tuesday to Sunday from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. In a few weeks, it will be open for lunch.

Le Sirene is located at 1957 Palmer Avenue, Larchmont, (914) 834-8300; go to for more information.
