Gills Celebrates Grand Opening Of Aquarium Store In Mamaroneck

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- During the past six months, you may have noticed a new colorful store on North Barry Avenue, next to the laundromat.

This weekend, Mamaroneck proprietors Sean and Jill Hofer are celebrating the grand opening of Gills Aquarium Store.

Visitors are greeted by rows and rows of fish and coral to choose from. The store at 525 N. Barry Ave. is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store is closed on Mondays.

"It's always been a passion of mine,'' Sean Hofer said.

Hofer worked at the former Petland store in Port Chester and founded Tri-State Aquarium Specialists, a company that services fish tanks six years ago. In addition to freshwater tank setups and fish, Gills sells food. Gills will install and maintain tanks for customers as well.

"Gills Aquarium will hopefully be a fixture in Mamaroneck for a very long time," Jill Hofer said.

At the March 25 and 26 grand opening celebration; Gills will feature vendors to discuss products, plenty of amazing fish.

Mike from Smokehouse (the owner's brother!) will be there to grill and bring his charm.

If you're a fan of "Nemo" the clownfish, Gills breeds and sells them. For the grand opening, Moon Jellyfish also will be sold.
