Award-Winning 'La La Land' Producer To Talk Film At Mamaroneck High

MAMARONECK, N.Y. --  Fred Berger, Oscar-nominated producer of acclaimed musical comedy-drama "La La Land," will speak at The Center for Continuing Education's Notable Neighbors program on Wednesday, March 8, at his alma mater, Mamaroneck High School.

"La La Land" earned a historic seven Golden Globes and was nominated for 14 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It has been a busy awards season for Berger, with "La La Land" also taking prizes at the Producer’s Guild, Director’s Guild and Screen Actors Guild.

Berger graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1999 and will talk about his film career with his former MHS film teacher, Dr. Michael DiGennaro, who teaches Independent Film at The Center.

“I didn’t realize at the time how formative my high school years were, and how vital they would be in defining my life and career,” said Berger. “I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in a community that elevates the arts, and thrilled to have the chance to thank ‘Dr DiG’ for infecting me with a love of film and storytelling.”

Berger began his career with Sofia Coppola on her films "Lost in Translation" and "Marie Antoinette." Currently, he has thriller "The Autopsy of Jane Doe" in release and is in production on "The Mountain Between Us" starring Kate Winslet and Idris Elba. Berger's next film, "I Think We’re Alone Now," brings him full circle as it begins shooting this spring in Westchester.

“It will be great fun to hear Fred’s insider view of the awards season and the film business,” said Blythe Hamer, The Center’s executive director.

Tickets are $40. Proceeds raised will fund ongoing programming by The Center for Continuing Education, a nonprofit organization.

Berger's talk will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the MHS McLain Auditorium.
