It's the first business for Vonnie Sullivan, a resident of Mamaroneck for the past 19 years.
"It's a modern version of an old-fashion general store,'' Sullivan said, while giving Larchmont residents a tour.
Tabletop and textile items can be found there, as well as pottery, jewelry, apothecary items and brooms. All the products are made by small merchants and artisans, she said, including local vendors. Most of her inventory was crafted in the United States.
"We're delighted to see anew small business coming in,'' Larchmont Mayor Anne McAndrews said after presiding over a ribbon-cutting ceremony. "It's tough today competing with Internet sales."
"But if you want something unique, go to the village and visit some small shops,'' the mayor said.
Village Mercantile is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sullivan said she expects to be open extended hours throughout the holidays.
