LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Collins Brothers Moving Corp. in Larchmont has been selected as the 2013 Moving and Storage Agent of the Year by the American Moving and Storage Association, the national trade association for the professional moving industry.

The company, which has another location in Virginia, opened in 1910 with just a horse and wagon. Today it has more than 300 pieces of equipment and 275 employees.

"I'm excited because of where the recognition is coming from," said Frank Webers, CEO of Collins Brothers. "Pretty much every mover of any size in the country is a member, so to be selected as the best out of thousands of candidates is great. I'm especially proud of my people, our drivers, helpers, office staff, because they do the work every day. It's their award, not mine."

The Moving and Storage Agent of the Year Service Excellence award is given to van line agents who are committed to impressive customer service assessments, leadership, innovation and community involvement, the association said.

On top of consistently providing high-quality service to its customers, Collins Brothers is also dedicated to service to the community. It recently contributed trailers and packing materials to help send relief items to Hurricane Sandy victims, and it donated drivers and trucks to the American Red Cross in Manhattan after the Sept. 11 attacks.

In a continuation of its effort to give back, Collins Brothers has partnered with Move for Hunger, a nonprofit organization that fights against hunger nationwide. The partnership is through Atlas Van Lines, a national mover of which Collins Brothers is a member agency.

"We always want to use our supplies and services to help out in any way we can, so this new initiative is great for us," Webers said.

Move for Hunger gathers nonperishable food items from household moves and hosting collections to deliver to local communities’ food banks. To date, Atlas and its agents have contributed more than 32,273 pounds of nonperishable food to local food banks across the U.S. Collins Brothers is joining that effort.
