Former NY Doctor Sentenced For Conspiring To Illegally Distribute Oxycodone
A former New York doctor was sentenced for illegally prescribing thousands of oxycodone pills to two people. Long Island resident Tameshwar Ammar, age 53, of Amityville, was sentenced on Thursday, Oct. 7, to five years in prison for conspiring to illegally distribute oxycodone, according to Jacquelyn Kasulis, acting United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York. He also agreed to forfeit $245,700 in criminal proceeds. Kasulis said Ammar pleaded guilty to the charge in July of 2020. He relinquished his license to practice medicine in June of that year. Westchester Heroin Dealer Facing Decades In Prison After Guilty Verdict In White Plains Trial
A drug dealer in Westchester is facing decades in prison for distributing heroin throughout the area. Leibys “Celly” Mercedes of the Bronx was found guilty of conspiring to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin in Yonkers following a four-day trial. The jury unanimously found him guilty of distributing the heroin to other dealers in the area. New Substance Abuse Treatment Center Could Be Coming To Westchester
Francisco Lugovina, CEO of Ekawa, LLC discussed a proposed substance abuse center that would be located on Legion Drive in Valhalla during a meeting of the Mount Pleasant Town Board earlier this month. The outpatient center would treat substance abusers, including people addicted to opioids. "We know there's a need for this,'' Mount Pleasant Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi told Daily Voice.
