Post Office Thefts: Police Warn Residents To Stop Mailing Checks In This Westchester Village Following a series of post office thefts, police in a Westchester municipality are warning residents to avoid mailing checks. In an announcement on Wednesday, June 5, the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department advised residents to stop mailing checks at their local post offices.  The warning follows thefts from both the inside and outside of post offices, the department added.  More information about the thefts has not yet been released. The Town of Montgomery Police Department reported on Tuesday, May 10, that the issue has been reported in a number of jurisdictions in Orange and Dutchess counties. "Checks are being stolen and mobile deposited in various banks," the department said.  The department encouraged residents and businesses to avoid having checks delivered by mail or left in the mailbox.
