Almost 40 cats were discovered to be living in filthy conditions after neighbors reported a terrible smell coming from a Westchester apartment, officials said. The discovery was made by SPCA Westchester's Humane Law Enforcement Team, which responded to a White Plains apartment after a landlord reported that neighbors were complaining about a "deathly smell" coming from the unit, the organization announced on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Cat Stuck In Tree: Pet Rescue Gives Firefighters Chance To Train In Northern Westchester
While it may seem the stuff of old television shows and cartoons, a fire department was actually called to help rescue a cat stuck in a tree in Northern Westchester. The brave rescue happened at a residence in Croton-on-Hudson on Sunday, Feb. 12, around 10:30 a.m., when a local cat climbed a tree to get away from circling hawks and could not find a way to get down again, according to the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department. Fifteen cats that were left alone in an apartment in Yonkers are looking for new homes after a quick-acting response by the Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers (MHACY), Mayor Mike Spano, and the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation, and Conservation.
