Somers Tops John Jay In Third-Grade Football

CROSS RIVER, N.Y. – In what proved to be tough defensive struggle, the John Jay third-grade football team lost to Somers 14-0 on Sunday to drop to 1-4.

Wade Steffens, Roger Squire and Oskar Lombardi helped to provide strong defense for the Indians, who held the Tuskers in check outside of two big plays. Peter Giner, Michael Ricci, Josiah deGrasse and Scott MacDonald made big contributions on defense as well, while Jack Annicelli came up with an interception and Cole Boniface made a fumble recovery.

In the first quarter, a long touchdown run gave Somers a 7-0 lead. A John Jay drive that would have tied the score before halftime fell just short.

The Tuskers scored their second touchdown in the third quarter after a long run that brought them inside the John Jay 10-yard line.

The Indians next play on Sunday at Gorton High School in Yonkers.
