John Jay, Yorktown Face Off in Boy's Lacrosse

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- The first Saturday of the 2012 high school sports spring season features one of the biggest games in Section 1 boy’s lacrosse. Defending Section 1 Class B champion Yorktown opens the season by hosting archrival John Jay-Cross River at 1 p.m. on Charlie Murphy Field.

Last year, Yorktown defeated John Jay in the Section 1 Class B championship game. The Cornhuskers advanced to a regional final, but lost to Garden City.

The Cornhuskers enter the season led by Conor Gately, Frank Fusco, Joe Raniolo, Eric Cooley and Brian Quigley.

John Jay opened its season with a 10-4 win over Arlington Wednesday. Matt Ferentini and Andrew Duffy each scored twice. Goalie Thomas Branca stopped nine of 13 shots. The Indians’ defense, highlighted by Jack Lambert and Danny Caiola, will be tested by Yorktown’s offense.
