South Salem Student Named Quinnipiac Leader

SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. – Cierra Ponzo of South Salem has been selected as a Quinnipiac University orientation leader for the 2012-13 academic year.

Orientation leaders act as university ambassadors and are among the first individuals to help transition incoming freshmen to campus life, according to the university. The orientation leaders help freshmen build confidence, knowledge and motivation to access campus resources, services and information, acclimate to the university community and develop personally and academically, the university said.

During the sessions orientation leaders are divided into teams of two that lead groups of approximately 12 incoming students during four summer orientation weekends, the university said. They take the freshmen through icebreakers and team building exercises to create excitement surrounding college life.

Quinnipiac is a private, coeducational, nonsectarian institution located in Hamden, Conn. The university enrolls more than 6,000 full-time undergraduate and more than 2,000 graduate students.
