Kat-Lewisboro Schools Post Letter on Newtown Tragedy

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – The Katonah-Lewisboro School District has posted a letter on its website suggesting how parents can help their children cope with any trauma caused by the school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

The letter directs parents to websites for the National Association of School Psychologists and the American Academy of Pediatrics, which offer tips on how to help children deal with tragedies.

The letter reads:

Dear Parents / Guardians –

We are all deeply saddened by the tragic events that took place today at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

We also recognize that your children may be confused and frightened by the information they see through the media and may look for guidance from the adults in their lives. Attached, please find tips and suggestions on how to help your child deal with these difficult events.

As always, our counseling and mental health staff is available to provide support for your child if needed.
