"There is no cause for alarm, however our District Medical Director would like to remind you of the symptoms of Pertussis, and that you should have your children seen by their physician if any of the following symptoms occur," notes the statement, which has been posted on the Katonah-Lewisboro school district's website.
According to the health office, Petussis begins with "cold-like symptoms," adding that there may be a fever or mild cough. This is followed in about one to two weeks by severe coughing, the office adds.
Symptoms, according to the health office, can last for one to two weeks and include low-grade fever, running nose and Apnea for infants, which is a pause in breathing. For kids who are vaccinated, according to the office, a shorter number of days for the coughing. Vomiting is also mentioned as a symptom.
A higher risk comes for infants, according to the announcement.
