After months and months of planning and preparation, the Town of Lewisboro opened its new offices in April in an effort to become compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The new space included offices for the court clerk, assessor, and Planning and Zoning departments, as well as a new town courtroom.
Located in the lower level of the Orchard Square shopping center in Cross River (behind DeCiccio’s Market), the move was a long time coming. It had been scheduled for December 2011, but there were a few stumbling blocks – such as an unpaved parking lot – that delayed the issuance of the certificate of occupancy.
“It’s been a little hectic, but it’s going good,” said Town Clerk Liz DeFaber. “We are preparing for court and just trying to get everything ready.”
The courtroom and court clerk offices were the only agencies that moved to the Orchard Square location from the Town House. The rest came from the house at Onatru Farm.
“What this move has done is make a huge part of our offices ADA compliant,” said Supervisor Peter Parsons. “That’s the biggest thing. And now that we are out of [Onatru Farm], we can move forward and make Onatru [farmhouse] ADA compliant as well.”
