LEWISBORO, N.Y. – With one new black 2014 Ford Explorer already in use and another due to arrive in a few weeks, the Lewisboro Police Department is replacing some of its aging fleet.
The department received the first of two SUVs in January and expects the second to arrive in a few weeks, Police Chief Frank Secret said.
“With the winters you’re having you can’t run a department without four-wheel drive vehicles,” said Secret, adding that in the case of an emergency, they need to be able to get up a hill or through the snow.
In addition to the two SUVs, Secret said the department has two patrol vehicles, which are both Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors, better known as the “Crown Vic.” The Crown Vic model was discontinued in 2011.
While Secret wanted to keep the new SUVs nice and shiny, he said the specs of dirt on the black vehicle were a sign it is being put to good use.
Lewisboro police also recently added a third full-time police officer. Erika Kirschner just completed her training at Westchester County Department of Safety and began full-time in Lewisboro.
