New Lewisboro Town Offices to be Ready by December

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – Many of the town of Lewisboro’s departments – from the court clerk to the planning department – are about to have a new home.

New offices for the town have been under construction behind the DeCiccio’s at Orchard Square at Cross River - formerly Cross River Plaza - since this summer. Now the work is nearly complete and Adam Brodsky, director of commercial properties for Orchard Square, said he hopes to turn the keys to the place over to the town on Dec. 1.

“We still have a list of about a half-a-dozen things to do, such as carpeting, tiling and painting, but we should be ready,” he said.

Town Supervisor Charles Duffy met with Brodsky, along with Joel Smith, the town’s facilities manager, to get an update on the progress and tour the new facilities Friday afternoon. Smith said his staff is ready to begin the move as soon as he gets the green light.

“The day we get permission, we’ll start moving in the furniture,” he said. “That should take a couple of weeks.”

The new offices will be the home of the Lewisboro Town Court and include a judge’s chambers, meeting space, the court clerk’s office and a larger courtroom. Court is currently held at the Town House and sessions are often overcrowded.

Additionally, the building, planning and housing departments, along with the assessor’s office, will move from the Onatru offices to the new digs. Duffy pointed out some of the highlights of the new space.

“There will be a public access area in the planning department where people can get information,” he said. “The countertop is wide enough to spread out plans. Behind the counter is where the building inspector and secretary will be.”

Duffy said once the space at Onatru is emptied, the town has a federal grant to make that building structurally sound and ADA compliant. He said the next step is to move the parks and rec department from its location in Goldens Bridge to Onatru once the building renovations are complete.

“This whole thing goes in stages,” he said. “It takes a longer than people expect. We wanted to be in this space a year ago, but it didn’t work out that way. But we had to do it. We needed to provide ADA-accessible offices for the employees and for the town’s people.”
