Michaelis Wins Conservative Party Endorsement

The Conservative Party of Westchester County announced Friday that Peter Michaelis has won the party’s endorsement for Westchester County Legislator in District 2, which includes the towns of Lewisboro, Bedford, Mt. Kisco, North Salem, Pound Ridge and part of Somers.

“I am confident that Peter Michaelis will help promote the conservative principles of fiscal responsibility, fair taxation and a regulatory environment that improves rather than harms our economy,” said Lewisboro Town Supervisor Charlie Duffy, the highest ranking elected official registered as a Conservative in New York State. “We are excited to support his candidacy and will work hard to help him take back District 2.”

The Conservative Party has seen a recent resurgence after drawing nearly a quarter of a million votes in the 2010 gubernatorial race, which allowed the party to re-take Line C on the ballot for the first time since the 1998 elections.

"Peter has followed our local issues for a number of years, he is very knowledgeable, he understands what is important to voters and has the diplomacy skills to be an excellent representative for our area in the county Legislature,” said Lewisboro Conservative Committee Town Chair Evelyn Kahlow. “I congratulate Peter on winning the endorsement and am eager to support his candidacy."

Michaelis, a small business owner, long-time civic activist and former Emmy-nominated television news producer, ran against Pete Harckham for the seat in 2007 and lost by only 365 votes out of the over 11,000 cast.

Two weeks ago, Michaelis won the Republican Party endorsement.

Upon learning of the support of the Conservative Party, Michaelis said, “I am thrilled to have received the Conservative Party endorsement.  I appreciate the time and diligence taken by the Conservative Committee Members in reaching this decision.  Bringing fiscal sanity back to Westchester County government is my top priority.”

In an area with a Democratic voter registration advantage like District 2, the Conservative line can often push a Republican candidate over the finish line.
