Man Steps In Front Of Train In Goldens Bridge

A Connecticut man was killed when he stepped in front of a northbound Metro North train in Goldens Bridge Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at 8:54 a.m. and officials are ruling it a suicide.

“It happened to the 7:45 a.m. express from Grand Central to Southeast, which was due at 9:16 a.m.,” said Metro North spokesperson Marjorie Anders. “The man just stepped in front of the train just south of the Goldens Bridge station.”

Passengers on board experienced about a two-hour delay until another train could be brought in to take them to their destinations.

“We de-energized the third rail in order to let the police and ambulance [crew] in,” Anders said. “Then we re-energized it to bring the second train in [to carry the passengers home].”

Goldens Bridge firefighters, Lewisboro Ambulance, Westchester County EMS and state police responded to the scene.

Anders said passengers were back on their way by about10:50 a.m.

The incident was said to have had a domino effect on other trains traveling along the track. Anders said a total of six trains experienced delays.

Metro North officials declined to release the identity of the victim, but said he was a man, 49, from Newtown, Conn.
