Lewisboro’s Wolf Center Wins A New Toyota

SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. – Atka the traveling ambassador wolf for the Wolf Conservation Center in Lewisboro has a new set of wheels.

Thanks to its supporters, the Wolf Center has been named one of the winners in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program. Since May 14, the program has given as many as 100 charities a chance to compete for one of six Toyota models. During that period, the program’s website has profiled five finalists a day, and Facebook subscribers were invited to vote for the nonprofit they thought could do the most good with a new vehicle. The Cars for Good program ends Tuesday, Aug. 21. 

The Wolf Center’s turn came Sunday, and at the end of the 14-hour voting period it had received the most votes. The Wolf Center is choosing a Toyota Sienna van to  transport Atka to his various appointments.

“We are beyond elated to have been given this opportunity and incredibly grateful to all of our supporters who made our victory a reality,” said Deborah Heineman, executive director of the organization. “Our pack is bigger than we ever could have imagined, and now our traveling ambassador wolf Atka can continue to reach thousands of people throughout the Northeast in a new set of wheels.”

The Wolf Center will use the van to take Atka to schools, libraries, camps, museums and other educational institutions as part of its mission to educate people about wolves.

The Wolf Conservation Center was selected from among more than 4,000 applicants nationwide to become a finalist in the Toyota program.
