LEWISBORO, N.Y. – The Lewisboro Police Department investigated two possible thefts last week.

On Monday, Aug. 8, officers were called to residence on Stewart Road in South Salem regarding missing equipment from the homeowner’s garage. The resident reported that six chainsaws, a hand-held blower, a portable drill kit and a 100-foot roll or rope were taken some time between Aug. 4 and Aug. 8. The approximate value of the equipment is between $5,500 and $6,000. Officers detailed the findings to Lewisboro police headquarters and investigators from the state troopers were called to the scene, who took over the investigation.

In the second theft investigation, police were dispatched to a residence on Howland Road in Cross River on Wednesday, Aug. 10. The resident told officers that the theft occurred on July 30. He reported that someone went into his mailbox and removed a set of music CDs valued at $54.50 and a set of University of Michigan football season tickets valued at $900. The resident contacted the university to cancel the stolen tickets.

AUG. 8

Police, along with the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps (LAVC), responded to a Salem Hill Road residence in South Salem where an 80-year-old male had fallen on Aug. 5 and still couldn’t move after lying in bed for three days. He refused medical attention. LVAC had the victim get and up and walk with his walker before leaving.

Police were dispatched to Round Ridge Road in South Salem at 4:06 p.m. on the report of a large tree down and blocking the road. Officers contacted New York State Electric & Gas and directed traffic until NYSEG arrived and re-opened the road at 6 p.m.

Police responded to a welfare check at a South Salem Road residence in South Salem. The victim’s daughter had told police she had been unable to make contact with her father. Police arrived and found the victim sitting on the toilet where LVAC had assisted him earlier. He was unable to get up and LVAC was dispatched. The victim was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital Center and his daughter was updated on his status.

AUG. 10

Police were dispatched to Smith Ridge Road in South Salem on a report of downed wires. Officers discovered a tree had come down and pulled both primary wires, along with two sets of secondary wires, down with it. NYSEG was advised.  Police remained to provide traffic control due to the blind corner at the location.

Police responded to an automobile accident on the grounds of the Four Winds Hospital in Cross River. A patient had been discharged and, while driving on the grounds, drove the wrong way on a one-way street. She was observed by other patients waving to them when she hit a bush and drove on top of a stone wall, coming to rest against a tree. The victim told the nurse supervisor that she had blacked out prior to the accident. She was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital Center.

AUG. 13

A South Salem woman came to police headquarters to report that her ex-husband had called her home phone and cell phone several times even though there was an order of protection in place that prohibits him from communicating with her. The woman reported that in his conversation, her ex-husband had threatened to come to her home and strangle her to death. Officers had the woman complete a deposition. Officers went to the ex-husband’s home and he was not there. On Monday, Aug. 15, police completed a report and took it to the Lewisboro Justice Court where an arrest warrant was issued for the ex-husband.

Police responded to the call of a semi-conscious person at a Lorraine Road residence in South Salem. Officers spoke to a neighbor who said she was called by the victim’s daughter who stated she could not reach her mother. The neighbor said she found the victim lying on the kitchen floor in a semi-responsive state. Vista EMS arrived and transported the victim to Norwalk Hospital.

Police responded to an Upland Court residence in Waccabuc on domestic disturbance call. It was reported that the daughter had locked herself in the bathroom, though it was unknown if she planned to harm herself. Officers interviewed the father who stated his daughter got upset and began throwing items and then broke a picture and picked up the glass and held it to her wrists. An officer spoke to the daughter who confirmed what her father had said, but said it was done to get her parents upset and that she did not want to hurt herself. Officers explained the options that the parents had; no further action was taken at the time.

An Oakridge Drive resident in South Salem told police he received a phone call at 1 p.m. on his cell phone and the unknown caller stated, “If you talk to your ex-wife again I will take a gun to you and blow your head off.” The victim said he did not know who the caller was but he dialed star 69 and retrieved a phone number. Officers called the number but no one answered.

AUG. 14                                                          

While on patrol, an officer was flagged down by members of the Goldens Bridge Fire Department who informed him of burning wires on a pole on Waccabuc Road. The officer saw the burning pole and advised police headquarters. NYSEG was notified and the arrived on the scene. Police assisted NYSEG with traffic control due to the sharp curve near the scene.
