“We’ve closed the town court for Monday night,” said Supervisor Peter Parson. “Also, everyone who works for the town was sent home by noon except for the emergency workers.”
Parsons had declared at state of emergency for the Town of Lewisboro on Sunday evening.
According to Town Board member Frank Kelly, under New York State Executive Law, declaring a state of emergency allows the establishment of curfews, the issuing of orders for all measures involving public safety, including controlling traffic, prohibiting movement of vehicles within areas, establishing shelters where the supervisor deems appropriate, suspending local laws and requesting supplemental assistance from county, state and other municipal entities.
“Local emergency officials may take any emergency action including seizure of private property within town to take emergency action, such as taking over buildings like firehouses for purposes of establishing shelters,” Kelly said
The town also established at 24-hour information line (914-977-8043), which will be answered by a live person. Parson stressed the line is for non-emergency calls only. Those with emergencies should call 911. Emergency updates can be found at the town’s website, and www.lewisboroemergency.com.
“We will be putting on extra officers for the next three days,” said Lewisboro Police Chief Frank Secret. “We will re-evaluate the situation after that.”
Parsons said that widespread and extended power outages are anticipated.
“NYSEG repair crews are in place and other crews are on their way to our area,” he said. “Right now, our advice is to minimize travel, assume all downed lines are live and respect all traffic barriers to facilitate emergency vehicles.”
The Katonah-Lewisboro School District closed schools for Monday and Tuesday. Further announcements on school closings will be made at 7 p.m. on the prior day. Check the district’s website. Parsons also noted that all Westchester County Parks are closed.
