Lewisboro Library Renovations OKd; More Money Needed

LEWISBORO, NY. –  After a year of meetings and planning, the Lewisboro Library has now received approvals from all the town boards and agencies necessary to move forward with its expansion and renovation plans, but more money needs to be raised before the project can begin.

The library has already raised $2.1 million and it is re-launching its building campaign to secure another $1 millio. Bids for the construction will go out in April and work will begin as soon as the remaining funds are raised.

The original building campaign was launched more than 10 years ago with the support of community members who donated time and money. After the scope of the original project was deemed too large for the site and queries into alternative sites proved unsatisfactory, a more modest addition was approved late last year.

The new plan calls for an additional 1,725 square feet. Highlights include an enclosed children’s area with 45 percent more space, a dedicated teen area with 39 percent more space, a separate program/conference room, full access for those with disabilities and numerous technological updates.

“We are very excited for construction to begin,” said Gary Page, president of the library’s Board of Trustees. “The library has been the cultural center and meeting place of Lewisboro for over 200 years, and many generations have passed through its doors. Now it is our generation’s turn to develop the library into a functional and progressive space for the 21st century - one that will continue to benefit the entire community.”

A committee of library trustees is leading the drive to raise the remaining $1 million. To learn more about the expansion, to get involved, or to donate, contact Library Director Cindy Rubino at crubino@wlsmail.org, Page at gpage@gpage.com, or call 914-763-3857.

“We ask everyone to make this the community project for 2013 and encourage all Lewisboro residents to take part in creating an institution of which we can be proud,” Page said. “This is a legacy project, one that will transform the quality of life in Lewisboro for generations to come.”
