LEWISBORO, N.Y. Lewisboro Police are investigating the theft of several items taken from a vehicle last week, including a GPS system and a prescription for oxycodone.
On Friday, police were called to a residence on Lake Road in South Salem where the homeowner told investigators one of the house painters he had hired removed several items from his car, drove off, and never returned. The homeowner told police that he had given the man $100 and sent to him to buy sandwiches for the rest of the painting crew.
The (painter) asked the homeowner if he could borrow a cigarette out of his car and the homeowner said, sure, said Police Chief Frank Secret. After the guy was gone for more than an hour, the (homeowner) knew something was wrong.
The homeowner checked his car, a 1999 Land Rover, and discovered the items were missing. Besides the GPS system and the drug prescription, also stolen was a pair of sunglasses valued at $180. The total value of the stolen items, including the $100 in cash, came to $764.
The homeowner said he didnt know the name of the man nor did any of the other painters.
The investigation is still open, Secret said. Its tough because we need a name and he didnt even know the guy.

Illegal Dumping: Lewisboro Rec Foreman Randy Price told police on March 19 that he had discovered household trash dumped in a barrel at Vista Park. One paper had a name and phone number on it. Police interviewed the person and requested they stop using public trash for household matter. She said it could have been a contractor who was cleaning out the house who was responsible.
Vehicles Impounded: Police impounded two vehicles on Wednesday, March 21, both on Ridgefield Avenue in South Salem, when it was discovered one of the motorist was driving without a license and other had an expired registration. The first incident occurred at 7:17 a.m. when police observed a car make an illegal turn from Route 35 onto Ridgefield Avenue. Upon interviewing the driver it was discovered he had no license. He was issued two tickets, one for the illegal turn and one for unlicensed operation. The car was impounded and the driver will appear in court on April 23.
The second incident took place an hour later at the same location. Officers saw a motorist make the same illegal turn onto Ridgefield Avenue. Further investigation revealed the cars registration was expired. The vehicle was impounded and its driver was issued summonses for the illegal turn and having an expired vehicle registration. He will appear in court on April 23.
