SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. – The Vista Cub Scout Pack 101 and the members of the Vista Fire Department in partnership with the United States Marine Corps Reserve will hold a Toys for Tots Collection Day at the Vista firehouse on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Now in its 64th year, the program was started in Los Angeles when a handful of Marine Reservists distributed 5,000 toys to needy children on Christmas Eve, 1947. Since its inception, over 195 million needy children throughout the United States have benefited from the donation of almost 416 million toys.

New, unwrapped toys may be dropped off at the Vista Fire House on Dec. 11 and collection boxes will be placed throughout town shortly. The firehouse is located at 377 Smith Ridge Road (Route 123) in South Salem.

Monetary donations can also be made via the Toys For Tots website at www.toysfortots.org.
