New York State Assemblyman Robert Castelli (R, C – Goldens Bridge) has endorsed presidential candidate Mitt Romney in the Republican primary.

Castelli represents the 89th District, which includes Lewisboro and Pound Ridge.

“I’ve had a chance to observe Governor Romney throughout his career, and found him to be level-headed, bipartisan and an individual who worked for the best interests of his constituents,” Castelli said. “I believe in this troubled economy and troubled world, he has both the business acumen to lead us out of a bad economy, and the consensus-building capability to unite us as Americans and continue our strong partnerships with our allies in this troubled world.”

Castelli said the election is not just about who can win the Republican primary, but who can win the presidency and serve both parties for the country’s greater good.

“That person will need to lead us through a tricky recovery, and form the kind of consensus that gets things done in Washington,” the assemblyman said “I believe that Governor Romney is the man for the job.”

A total of 25 members of the state assembly threw their support behind Romney.

“Mitt Romney is the one candidate with the values and experience that will be needed to go up against President Obama in November,” Minority Leader Brian Kolb (R – Canandaigua) said. “Throughout his life, Mitt Romney has displayed leadership in tough situations – that is exactly what will be needed to turn around our economy.”
