Auction Fever Coming to St. James

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The St. James Country Auction is on its way! Saturday, July 30 is the date and bidding starts at noon -- promptly!

Susan Koch, one of the organizers, said, “People line up at the bottom of the driveway beforehand and once we open, they literally run up the driveway. By the end of the day, everything is sold.”

A pre-viewing and auction pre-sale will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Many items for sale or auction are already displayed on the St. James website. New this year is a silent auction. Those items can be seen on the site and bids are placed online as well.

The St. James Country Auction is a local annual event, now in its 53rd year. The main auction will be under a tent on the church grounds. There will also be a white elephant sale of little 25-cent or 50-cent items, a book sale, a toy sale, live plants, and more.

Refreshments will be plentiful. Parishioners prepare a country kitchen spread, including hotdogs, hamburgers, bacon-burgers and lots of home-baked items.

The parish’s quilting club has been working for a year on a marvelous handmade quilt, which can be admired on the St. James website. The quilt will be raffled off and the winning ticket drawn at 3 p.m.

The St. James Country Auction is the church’s biggest fundraiser event of the year. Everyone is welcome.
