LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- The Lewisboro Land Trust brought a group of disabled adults from Community Based Services out to Onatru Farm and Preserve on Tuesday, July 5, to help rehabilitate two trails.

The participants helped to clear growth that hindering walking and hiking on two of the preserve's trails.

Community Based Services, based in North Salem, is an agency that operates residences and other support services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The goal for each resident is to provide them with a safe and meaningful life.

Residents and adults in the Day Habilitation Program participate in recreational activities, but also gain life experience and basic work skills training -- like those learned at the Onatru Preserve. The community based programs provide a person-centered approach to scheduled activities. There is an emphasis on pre-vocational activities and volunteer opportunities.

Some other volunteer sites include Meals on Wheels, picking up and delivering food to local senior residents at Lewisboro Senior Center, Salvation Army, ASPCA, Friends of Karen, and local churches and food pantries.

Joining the land trust board members at Onatru Preserve were Justin, Kevin, Dominick, Cletis, Direct Support Professional Donald Thomas and Day Habilitation Manager Magda Piacentino. This event was part of the Lewisboro Land Trust's Access Nature program, funded by a grant from NYSCPP LTA.
