Opinion: Resident Questions Frei-Pearson's Claims

To the Editor:

After reading about Jeremiah Frei-Pearson’s announcement of his candidacy for the 89th Assembly District, I decided to learn more about him on the web. I found some disturbing discrepancies between what was reported and what appears to the truth.

The article claimed that Mr. Frei-Pearson, a 32-year-old attorney, grew up in Northern Westchester. But, according to the candidate’s biography from his 2010 Assembly Race in Queens, he actually grew up in Baltimore and moved to Lewisboro at age 16. More importantly, the article leaves out the fact that Mr. Frei-Pearson has lived in Queens for the last nine years.  Far from being a political neophyte, he unsuccessfully ran for office twice, running for State Senate in 2009, and State Assembly in 2010. He is only able to run in the 89th District this year because of a loophole in the Election Law that applies only during redistricting years.

Personally, rather than rely on the unfounded claims of a Queens machine politician, when it comes to representing the best interests of northern Westchester, including crafting effective firearms, domestic violence and sex crimes legislation, and working to cut taxes, I will continue to place my faith in Assemblyman Castelli for his remarkable record in his first term, and his background as a small business owner, a 21 year member of the State Police and a college professor lecturing on criminal justice matters.
