To The Editor:

I write to enthusiastically support Jeremiah Frei-Pearson's candidacy for Assembly.  Jeremiah is a civil rights lawyer who has spent his career fighting for foster children by working to reform failed government agencies.  In the state legislature, Jeremiah will continue to fight to reform government, and I am confident he will be able to deliver real tax relief and fiscal sanity while ensuring that our schools remain among the nation's very best.

Unfortunately, a supporter of the incumbent wrote a letter personally attacking Jeremiah.  These sorts of personal attacks undermine our political process and are designed to distract us from the real issues.  Instead of talking about how the incumbent has failed to reduce local taxes or how the incumbent has consistently voted against our communities' values by opposing marriage equality and supporting the most extreme positions of the gun lobby, his supporters would rather engage in mud-slinging.  As a community, we're better than that.

Although the attack that Jeremiah isn't from Northern Westchester is so baseless that it doesn't need a response, I need to set the record straight.  Jeremiah is from Northern Westchester.  I have known Jeremiah for more than half of his life, and he has always been involved in our community.  For example, when Jeremiah was in high school in the 1990s, he taught my son at an after-school program at the Mount Kisco Boys & Girls Club.  He and his wife have repeatedly organized charitable events in our community -- such as a concert at Fox Lane High School for Katrina victims in 2006, or the toy drive they spearheaded last year, where they collected 2,000 toys for underprivileged Westchester children for the holidays.

Jeremiah's community involvement is just one of the reasons that he will be a great assembly member.  I'm honored to support him, and I hope all of your readers will take the time to learn about his candidacy.
