Volunteers are needed to serve as Trails Stewards or Crew Members.

Stewards patrol trails two or three times a year, keeping them clear of litter, new growth, branches and small tree debris. They replace missing blazes and report major obstructions, damage or erosion. Stewards are assigned to a particular group of trails and work in small teams, coordinated by the Chief Trails Steward.

Trails Crews supplement other volunteers as needed. They may help with major trail repair and maintenance, help remove downed trees, or repair erosion.

Trails expert Geof Conner will conduct a training session for volunteers called “Patrolling, Maintenance and Trail Blazing” at the Cyrus Russell Community House, 779 Route 35, Cross River, on Saturday, March 23 at 9:30 a.m. Registration is required. For more information, contact gscott@scottassociatesllc.com.

Correction: An earlier version of this article did not correctly identify Geof Conner as the featured speaker and misstated that the training session is open to the general public while it is intended for volunteers and prospective volunteers.
