Goldens Bridge's Sugarman Dies at 75

GOLDENS BRIDGE, N.Y. - Annette Sugarman of Goldens Bridge died March 5 at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne after a 12-year battle with cancer. She was 75.

She was born Jan. 29, 1937 in Brooklyn, N.Y. and married Bernard Sugarman. In 1999, Sugarman retired from the New York City Department of Housing and spent two years living with her daughter's family in Sydney, Australia. She had been living with the family in Goldens Bridge since.

Despite her cancer diagnosis 12 years ago, Sugarman's family said she surprised doctors with her "resilience and toughness" and always managed to put on a smile.

Surviving are her sisters Gloria Pena of Coconut Creek, Fla., Lena Miller of Glen Head, N.Y. and Mary Jane Klepach of Belford, N.J., her brother Vincent Ciccone of Leesburg, Va., her sons Nate of Las Vegas, Nev. and Lonnie of Pasadena, Calif., her daughter Felycia of Goldens Bridge and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Bernard in 1992 and her sister Rosalie in 1995.

In lieu of funeral services, Sugarman instructed her family to hold a future gathering  in Watson's Bay in Sydney, on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Donations may be made to Rosary Hill Home, 600 Linda Ave., Hawthorne, NY 10532.
