LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- A recent rebuilding at one of Lewisboro’s most popular restaurants increased seating capacity and added parking while keeping the dishes that regulars crave.
Bacio Trattoria re-opened in May at the intersection of Routes 35 and 121 North and has a “New Look, Same Feel” according to its website. Antonio Coppola, who owns the restaurant with Antonio and Alfredo Abbate, said the restaurant increased seating capacity from 35 to 60 and expanded the dining room, bar area and kitchen. The restaurant was closed for five months.
“The old place was knocked down, we rebuilt it and everything is new,’’ Coppola said. “Before it was a very tiny, tight place. Now we even have fireplace where people can congregate durng the winter time. Everybody likes the improvements.”
Coppola and his partners have owned the restaurant for 16 years. They also own Blue Dolphin in Katonah and LeFontane in Somers. He said the owners contemplated renovations for six years.
“We had to climb a few steps along the way,’’ said Coppola, who lives in Katonah. “There were a few complications, especially with parking. But we did it a slow pace to make sure we got it right.”
Visitors to the expanded restaurant will find the same Italian recipes that customers have enjoyed for years. The menu includes beef, chicken, pork and seafood dishes, along with vegetarian plates. The restaurant also offers catering. Click here for the restaurant menu.
“We did not change the menu and we managed to keep everyone that had been working here,’’ Coppola said. “We have a nice following, and they were happy that they saw familiar faces. We kept the same feel, comfortable and casual. I think everyone had to adjust in the beginning. Now everyone seems to like it.”
Coppola said the decision to temporarily close the restaurant was difficult, but necessary.
“I think it will help expand our business,’’ he said. “It makes a better feel for people. Sometimes people didn’t want to come because it was too small. Now we have a little more room, and we have room in an area to wait and have a drink, if you want. Before the renovations it was a little hard to do that.”
