What To Do In Lewisboro, Pound Ridge Area This Weekend

There’s lot of fun and interesting stuff going on at the Pound Ridge and Lewisboro libraries this weekend, and the Wolf Conservation Center has some cool programs as well. Check out our Events page for even more things to do.

Friday, Oct. 5

Fun With Music: 11 a.m. The Pound Ridge Library presents Fun With Music featuring Laura D’Amico for children ages 5 and under. Registration is required. For more information, call the library at 914-764-5085. 271 Westchester Ave., Pound Ridge.

Edible Inspects: 3 - 4 p.m. In this special program for students in grades two through five, children will discover why insects are used as a food source. Meet live edible bugs, learn which insects are edible, and meet some insect-eating animals. Participants will have a chance to try an edible insect, too. “Wallflower” Book vs. Movie: 5 - 7 p.m. This pizza party and book vs. movie discussion is for students in middle and high school. "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" is a new movie starring Emma Watson that is getting great reviews. It is based on the popular teen novel by Stephen Chbosky. Come for pizza and talk about the book and movie. Registration is required. Call the Lewisboro Library at 914-763-3857. 15 Main St., South Salem.

Sleeping With Wolves: 7 p.m. - 9 a.m. The Wolf Conservation Center’s nocturnal adventure experience gives visitors a chance to camp out overnight with the 25 wolves that call the center home. With all the howls and nature’s nighttime chatter, you’ll feel as if you’re camping under the stars with wild wolves. Cost is $300 per four-person tent. Singles are $150 but must bring their own tents. Admission includes a pizza party with the center’s ambassador wolves, an opportunity to behold critically endangered red and Mexican wolves, a movie under the stars, evening snacks and a light breakfast. Saturday, Oct. 6

Gossett Brothers Farm Market: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The Gossett Brothers Farm Market features fresh produce, meats and cheese, as well as seafood. The market is at 1202 Route 35, at Gossett Brothers Nursery in South Salem.

Evening Howl for All Ages: 5:30 - 7 p.m. Join the Wolf Conservation Center for a special Evening Howl and visit the wolves during their favorite hour – dusk. Learn about the mythology, biology and ecology of wolves in North America and enjoy a sunset howl with the wolves. You’ll observe the center’s critically endangered red wolves, and Mexican wolves, as well. Cost is $16 for adults and $13 for children under 12. Registration is required. Jo Dee Messina Concert: 8 p.m. One of country music’s most renowned talents, Jo Dee Messina brings her world-class pipes and unique musical and personal style to Ridgefield, Conn. With no fewer than nine No. 1 singles on the Billboard country music charts, she has sold more than 5 million albums and earned two Grammy nominations in addition to awards by the CMA and ACM. Sunday, Oct. 7

Fall Foliage Sunset Photo Session: 4 - 6 p.m. Join the Wolf Conservation Center for this special opportunity to photograph the ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa and Zephyr in the warm glow of the sunset. Guests will also be given access to photograph the center's critically endangered Mexican wolves and red wolves from vantage points not generally available during regular visits. Each guest will receive an official 2012 Wolf Awareness Week poster. This event costs $150 per person and is for ages 13 and older. Registration is required.
