LEWISBORO About 2,000 people spent part of their Fourth of July at Stevens Memorial Methodist Churchs 19th Annual Antiques in the Church Yard antiques show in South Salem.
Attendees were treated to more than 80 venders who were selling everything from antique furniture and jewelry to vintage books and presidential memorabilia.
We have vendors from all over, from Maine to Massachusetts, said Wendy Wakeman, one of the shows coordinators and a church volunteer. This is one of [the churchs] largest fundraisers of the year.
The church makes money from the $7 admission fee, an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast and a vendor booth selling craft items, white elephants, baked goods and locally produced honey. Some of the proceeds go to the church's mission work as well as other charities, such as the Skin Cancer Foundation.
[Attendance] has been really good so far, Wakeman said. Its better than last year when it was so hot.
Wakeman eyed the clearing skies and noted that the rain from the night before had subsided just in time.
The weather seems to be holding, she said with a grin.
The show also featured concession stand where attendees could buy fresh-made kettle popcorn, smoothies and other treats.
The Vista Fire Department was on hand with volunteers to help with traffic and parking and any health emergencies that might arise.
The vendors were doing a brisk business and said they were happy with the turnout.
This is a good show, said Jerry Berman, of 20th Century Limited, a Guilford, Connecticut-based business that sells glassware and other items. We have been doing this show for around 10 years. Its well promoted and the people seem to really like our stuff.
