The votes are in, and New York's 16th Congressional District now knows its next representative in Congress. Democrat George Latimer has been projected as the winner for the House seat representing the southern portion of Westchester, including White Plains, Mount Vernon, Yonkers, New Rochelle, and Rye, and a small part of the northern Bronx, defeating Republican Miriam Flisser, according to the state Board of Elections. A bill that would rename a bridge in Westchester after a beloved fallen officer is set to be introduced by both state and county elected officials. Westchester County Executive George Latimer has unveiled his proposed 2024 Capital Budget, which requests $473.7 million in new appropriations. The Westchester Board of Legislators has elected a new chairman after his predecessor resigned following a scandal involving a former county staffer trying to meet with who he thought was a 14-year-old girl. Westchester County Executive George Latimer is pushing to make transportation cheaper and more accessible for area residents. After nearly a decade is disrepair, a Westchester icon is set to get a multi-million renovation that could see it open as soon as 2021. Westchester County Family Court Finds New Home In New Rochelle
One of Westchester's Family Courts will soon have a new home. The Westchester Board of Legislators voted unanimously on Monday, June 15 to approve a lease for the county’s Family Court on Garden Street in New Rochelle. Two Westchester School Districts Add Armed Security Officers
The Westchester County Department of Public Safety will provide four police officers to serve as School Resource Officers (SRO) in the Lakeland and Hendrick Hudson School Districts. The positions were created through an amendment to an existing intermunicipal agreement (IMA) which adds three new SRO’s where the existing IMA previously provided one SRO at Walter Panas High School. The Town of Mamaroneck is the latest municipality to propose restricting the use of plastic and paper bags to reduce environmental pollution.Five years ago, town officials drafted and then tabled, legislation that would have imposed a fee on any plastic or paper bags purchased within the Town of Mamaroneck's borders. Latimer Issues Executive Order Banning Gun Shows On County Property
This story has been updated. As one of his first actions as Westchester County's new County Executive, George Latimer signed an executive order on Tuesday banning gun shows on county property.
