Retired Police Sergeant Who Served For Decades In Westchester Dies
A police department in Westchester has announced the death of one of its former members who spent his life serving his community and country. Dutchess County resident Andrew Fischer, Sr., a retired Eastchester Police sergeant, died on Tuesday, April 9 at the age of 84, according to his obituary. Fischer, an Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War era, joined the department in 1964 and served until his retirement in 1987 after 23 years, according to Eastchester Police. Harvard Grad Student Becomes First Active Military Member Crowned Miss America
A graduate student at Harvard has made history as the first active duty member of the military to be crowned Miss America. Madison Marsh, who is working on her master's degree in public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and currently a graduate intern with Harvard Medical School, was crowned on Sunday, Jan. 14. Nearly three-quarters of a million New Yorkers will go unrepresented in Congress for months following former Rep. George Santos’ expulsion from office. A former fire chief and lifelong Northern Westchester resident who dedicated much of his life to firefighting has died. Yorktown Heights resident Arthur Orneck, who served as the Chief of the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department between 1986 and 1987, died on Tuesday, April 4 at the age of 74, according to his obituary. A New York military contractor will pay $75,000 to resolve allegations that it sold counterfeit batteries to the Department of Defense that later caused “military equipment failures.” With the payment, Industrial Equipment and Supply Company (IESC), located in Latham in Albany County, along with its principals, Mark and Sandra Nystoriak, settled allegations that the company violated the False Claims Act. William "Bill" G. Crenson of Omaha, NE died April 28. The son of Gus and Lilian Crenson, Bill was born on March 26, 1932 in the Bronx. He was a 1950 graduate of Harrison High School where he excelled in sports and academics. In 2016 he was inducted into the Harrison High School Athletic Hall of Fame as an athlete and beloved coach.
