Man, Dog Bitten By Bear While Walking Connecticut Trail A man and one of his dogs were bitten by a bear in Connecticut over the weekend in Hartford County.  Simsbury Police Sgt. Brad Chase said that at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, a man was walking his three dogs in the McLean Game Refuge off Firetown Road when they encountered a bear. Chase said that the bear bit the dog, and while attempting to intervene, he too was bitten in the leg by the bear. 431-Pound Bear Euthanized After Confronting Resident, Ransacking Connecticut Home A 431-pound bear was euthanized after entering a home in Connecticut, confronting the homeowner and then ransacking the kitchen and dining room. The incident took place early Saturday morning, April 20 when a Simsbury homeowner walked into his kitchen and was met by the huge bear who was looking for food, said Lee Sawyer, spokesman for Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Police Officer In Westchester Dies At 33 A 33-year-old police officer in Westchester died unexpectedly at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville. Thomas Goff, who had been with the Yonkers Police Department for the past three and half years, died on Saturday, March 30, according to an obituary by Whalen & Ball Funeral Home.  The Yonkers Police Department said on its Facebook page: "We lost a valued member of our department, he will be sorely missed."
