This Locale Is NY's Lone Representative In Money Magazine's Best Places To Live List
New Yorkers searching for the sweet life need look no further than this Long Island locale, according to a new ranking from Money magazine.
On its list of the 50 best places to live in the United States, Glen Cove on Nassau County’s North Shore was ranked No. 37, the only New York locale to make the cut.
To come up with its ranking, Money looked at several factors that matter most to people, including cost of living, diversity, economic opportunity, and education.

Robert (Bob) Cunningham Doherty was born in New York City on Sept. 30, 1930, the son of Francis Joseph and Helen Utley Doherty.
He grew up in Westchester County and attended public schools there (first in Mount Vernon and then “out in the country” in Chappaqua). He was a Cub Scout for several years, took piano lessons and frequently played sandlot baseball with his older brother, Mike.
At the start of World War II, his parents decided to move back to New York City and in 1939 Bob and his brother were sent to a boarding academy, the Harvey School, in Hawthorne.

Former Rye Resident And Volunteer Extraordinaire, Kerstin Doherty, 81
Mrs. Kerstin Birgetta Doherty (née Karlsson), 81, of Raleigh, NC died on Sunday, May 5. She was the only daughter of the late Otto Wilhem Karlsson and Anna Karin Segerdahl Karlsson. Kerstin was born July 10, 1937 in Stockholm, Sweden.
In 1959, Kerstin began her employment at Pan American Airlines with her home base in New York. She began flying to a variety of cities in the Pan Am system (throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia). In 1960, on one of those Pan Am flights (a return “leg” from Paris to New York), she met the love of her life, Robert Doherty.

Memorial services have been announced for the father and adopted daughter from Dutchess County and the daughter's infant son who were killed on Thursday, April 12 in New Milford, Conn., and in North Carolina in a triple-murder suicide in a case linked to incest.
