After leading authorities on a chase that ended in a crash, a pickup truck thief wearing a bright yellow jumpsuit was caught in a Westchester neighborhood with the help of a K9 officer's nose, police said. The incident began on Thursday, Sept. 14 around 6:15 p.m., when authorities were notified that a stolen Ford F350 pickup truck was traveling on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Harrison. Tragedy was avoided when a K9 officer was able to track down an elderly man who went missing in Northern Westchester in freezing conditions. RIP, Sal: Westchester Police Mourn Loss Of K9 Narcotics Officer
The Westchester County Police Department said goodbye to a veteran K9 drug-detecting dog over the holiday season. While many were celebrating the holidays, the department announced that retired canine officer Sal has died on Christmas Eve.
