Burglary Suspect Used Pickaxe To Break Into Westchester Home, Police Say A 39-year-old man is behind bars after police say he used a pickaxe to break into a home in Northern Westchester. It happened on Thursday, Aug. 29 at around 7 a.m. when police officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a Yorktown home. Yorktown Police say an investigation revealed that John B. Tompkins of Cortlandt Manor allegedly forcibly entered the residence using the pickaxe. Tompkins then allegedly further damaged the front door and a couch having a total value of $4,000, police said.
